Had a bit of a nasty run-in with the Miata last weekend. I got talked into taking my roommate hiking and that was the only road-worthy car in my fleet: he drives a Prius and I was midway through something on the Volvo.
The Miata handled the unpaved roads like a champ and made me think that it would be a great rally car someday until I made a sharp right and the edge of the road yanked the side skirt clean off the driver’s side.
Fortunately there’s no serious damage - the side skirt was just pulled clean off its clips, though a few were damaged enough to warrant replacement or went missing. $20 in new clips and $20 in touch-up paint will have it looking like new again.
The hike ended almost before it began since he couldn’t handle high altitudes. Whoops. Better luck next time.

Yikes, my wife did a similar thing to the front lip in her ND. Bolted it back up, a little worse for the wear but I figure it’s not done taking damage...

You can star photos now? It’s in the top right corner. Did you get a notification for it?

FWIW I needed a friend to help get it back on. Too long to make sure all of the clips were getting in with my measly 2 arms.

hm weir, doesn’t seem you get notifications for starring photos.

I didn’t even know it was a thing until now tbh. What purpose does it even serve? It doesn’t even s how up under my recommended/saved posts or whatever it’s called.

I took my ND to Deal’s Gap last week - the airbnb we stayed at was down a 2 mile gravel road. When we were leaving Waze had be go the opposite way that we came in - did not realize Waze was only looping me around to come back past our cabin, but it was some hairy off-roading for about a mile and it took about 1/2 hour to get back to the cabin -
lots of rocks and dips
and I banged the bottom of the car a few times, and also scuffed the front lip in a small spot
.
I looked under the car the other day to see that only the cat and the other skid plates under the car were the only things with scratches. Thankfully I’m running the RoadsterSport springs, so the car is only lowered 1/2".

I don’t get it, how can anyone misinterpret that totally innocuous statement as anything inappropriate?

Yeah, it was a gigantic PITA to get it back on. I found that pushing from the bottom rear corner made it easier to reinstall.

How did the bumper & hood fare? Soul Red chips like there’s no tomorrow.

This is why I ordered clips in bulk - I know it’s probably not the first time this is going to happen.

Didn't realize you fixed it already. Good news!

How high up are you? I’m at 7,250 ft. and most of the local trails go up to just over 10,000. Bringing visiting friends and family from sea level hiking with us is always a crapshoot. Also I have my eye on an NB Miata for sale nearby right now but I’m not sure if it’ll have enough power up left here for me to have any fun with.

it was fine, thankfully all the rocks were under the car :) But I do have a
nice chip on my driver’s side
fender from something - I didn’t notice it or I’d have paid the shop to fix it while they were replacing my front bumper after a lady backed into it a year ago

Well, sort of. I’ve just put the skirt back on. Still need to replace the clips and touch up the paint, but it looks a bit better now.
